On Monday, September 13, 2021, an all-staff meeting was held for all Meade District Hospital and Rural Health Clinic employees regarding the new conditions of participation for The Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). At the meeting, Artesian Valley Health System’s (AVHS) CEO Tara Ramlochan announced that all Meade District Hospital and Rural Health Clinic employees who are COVID-19 unvaccinated are required to be tested weekly. AVHS made this decision to stay compliant with the vaccination requirements, for healthcare settings, issued by CMS.
On Thursday, September 9, 2021. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), announced that emergency regulations requiring vaccinations for nursing home employees will now include hospitals, dialysis facilities, ambulatory surgical settings, and home health agencies, among others, as a condition for participating in the Medicare & Medicaid programs. This agreement was based on the continued and growing spread of COVID-19 in healthcare settings.
COVID-19 vaccinations have proven to reduce the risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19 and are effective against the Delta variant. Over one hundred healthcare facilities have already enforced vaccination mandates for their employees. At this time COVID-19 vaccinations are not being mandated thus AVHS has decided to test all unvaccinated Meade District Hospital and Rural Health Care Clinic employees weekly.
Artesian Valley Health System will continue to stay compliant and informed of the new conditions of participation for The Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services.
