AVHS Back to School Bash a Success

Meade, KS, – August 19, 2022 – Artesian Valley Health System (AVHS) hosted their first ever community-wide Back to School Bash on Wednesday, August 10, at the Meade City Park for all school-aged children and their families. The bash was a huge success, with over 200 people attending. The evening consisted of a free meal, field and carnival games, prizes, music, bounce houses, a petting zoo, playtime at the playground, and the splash pad.

AVHS sought the partnership of local organizations and received a good outcome. CATCH, Harvest America, and K-State Research and Extension set up fun activities and gave away prizes. 4-H set up a petting zoo of bunnies, goats, chickens, and cows. The Meade Sheriff’s Department walked around the event handing out badges, sunglasses, pencils, and more. The Meade County Health Department supplied individual bags that contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. AVHS employees gave those out along with a free backpack. The Meade Fire Department brought their grill and cooked the free meal.

In addition, AVHS applied for a couple of grants to assist in funding the event. They received a grant award of $1,600 from Statesmen. A nonprofit organization in Meade, KS, founded by a group of individuals with the purpose of keeping funds and activities local. They also received a grant award of $700 from The Meade County Community Foundation. A charity organization annually awards grants to local not-for-profit organizations in our community. AVHS purchased food, activities, prizes, backpacks, and more for the event with these grants.

Artesian Valley Health System appreciates all the local organizations, members, AVHS employees, and families who made the Back to School Bash possible and a success. They hope to host a bash for the community next school year and supply children with school supplies.
